On 26 January 1984, the Local Government Finance Authority (LGFA) was established, and formal operations of the Authority commenced on 26 March 1984.

In 2024, LGFA continues to provide competitive financial products, and through prudent management of its funds and reserves, LGFA support local government to deliver the best possible services to the South Australian community.
